Safety First: Welcome to the Alphonso Lewis Safety Site Professionalism, Leadership and Safety By John Sypek, Operations Vice President I recently had the privilege of attending the National Truck Driving Championships in Minneapolis. The event was notable for a variety of reasons, but the one memory that I will never forget was the professionalism and leadership displayed by all the participants. These are the two qualities that all 38 YRC employees that participated in this prestigious event possess. Of course, they put in a lot of extra time and effort outside their normal work shifts to practice their skills, study safety regulations, and compete at driving competitions. This is what professionals and leaders do; they practice their skills to perfection and lead by example. While not everyone chooses to get involved in these competitions; that does not mean they do not possess these two attributes. All employees must strive to enhance their skills and lead by example when it comes to preventing accidents and injuries. Safety is at the heart of our operations and embedded in our daily routines. The KIP Keys and Smith System® have laid a great foundation for preventing and eliminating accidents and injuries. These are the principles of safety that produced our National Grand Champion at the NTDC. Our commitment to safety allows us to meet your expectations, and, most importantly, it allows us to return home in the same condition in which we left. |
