In March 2012, we demonstrated that commitment by honoring seven exceptional women employees in conjunction with Women's History Month. We're also a proud member of Women in Trucking, an organization dedicated to furthering opportunities for women in our industry. As part of our Women's History Month celebration, we created a distinctive trailer graphic that featured photos of three women employees and included the Women in Trucking logo.
One of the women employees we highlighted was Dee E. Smith, a road driver from Indianapolis, who celebrates 25 years with the company in July 2012 and is approaching 2 million miles of driving without a preventable accident. For the last decade, Dee has participated in the Indiana State Trucking Driving Championships, finishing as high as third in her class.
“Trucking is the best job I've ever had,” Dee said. “I wish I had started younger. I keep trying for that first place in the truck driving championships.”
Dee said it wasn't easy for women when she first started driving. “Over the years, I've been able to prove myself, and YRC Freight has been very supportive. It's a great place to work. I'm thankful for the opportunities I've had and for the support of organizations like Women in Trucking.”
