Reimer Express Lines Ltd. is proud to announce that Reimer Driver Julius Swecera has been named National Champion in the step van class and Darren Tychkowsky has been named National Champion in the single-single class at the 2008 National Professional Truck Driving Championships on Sept. 12–13 in Ottawa, Ontario.
Julius Swecera is a driver account specialist at the Reimer service center in Vancouver, British Columbia. He has worked for Reimer since 1990 and began competing at Nationals in 1999. In his two trips to Nationals, he has competed in the single-tandem and step van categories. With Nationals in Vancouver in 2009, Julius is ready to defend his title at home.
Darren Tychkowsky is a Driver Account Specialist at the Reimer Express service center in Edmonton, Alberta. He began his employment with Reimer in 1992. Darren has participated in several Provincials over the past few years in the single-single category. This was Darren's second trip to Nationals and his first time to receive a trophy at the event.
Harvey Gording placed second in the single-tandem class, and Larry Radons won second place in the straight truck class. Both have won numerous times at Nationals. Larry has been awarded National Grand Champion three times and has won National Champion in his class five times. Harvey has been awarded National Grand Champion twice and has won National Champion in his class six times along with National Rookie of the Year in 1993.
"This is a great accomplishment for our drivers and for Reimer ," said Clayton Gording, Reimer Express president. "To have both Julius Swecera and Darren Tychkowsky place first at this year's event is special. They have competed at the Nationals in prior years, and this is the first time they have captured the title.
"Along with Larry Radons and Harvey Gording, who are Reimer ambassadors at this event, Reimer drivers continue to perform well at the national level. I'd also like to acknowledge all the Reimer drivers across Canada who entered the competition at the provincial level. We continue to strongly encourage and support this event as a way for our drivers to showcase their skills, experience and dedication to safety in the industry."
To compete, each entrant must be accident free for 12 months before the championships. At Nationals, competitors completed a written test, a pre-trip inspection and a driving maneuverability competition. Reimer had five drivers compete at nationals out of the total 35 competitors.
