13 YRC Drivers Join the Ranks of National Truck Driving Championships Competitors [06.08.2009]
Thirteen YRC drivers won their classes at state truck driving championships over the weekend to earn the right to compete at the National Truck Driving Championships (NTDC). The drivers hailed from service centers in Colorado, Indiana, New Hampshire, New York, Minnesota and Vermont.
- William Belton of Indianapolis West, Ind. (321) won the straight truck class in his state. He competed in his state championships for the first time this year, making this his rookie year.
- Shawn Campos, a Maybrook, N.Y. (123), driver will compete in the flatbed class. Campos competed at the 2008 NTDC.
- Another Indiana driver, Don Conklin, of South Bend (312), earned the right to proceed to Nationals to compete in the 5-axle class. Conklin competed at the 2007 and 2008 NTDC.
- Daniel Ferenczi joins the ranks of Indiana drivers who will compete at Nationals. Ferenczi, also of South Bend, won the tanker class and was named State Grand Champion. Ferenczi is also a rookie.
- Duane Foreman of Minneapolis (385) will represent Minnesota and YRC in the 3-axle competition at the NTDC. Foreman, named State Grand Champion, is enjoying his rookie year.
- Denver (890) Driver John Guttropf won the 5-axle class in his state, and has competed at one previous championship.
- Bill Krouse, a St. Paul, Minnesota (347), driver will compete in the flatbed class. This is Krouse's third trip to Nationals, having competed in 2006 and 2008.
- Jerry Lawrence, also of Denver, will compete in the twin trailers class in this, his rookie year.
- Bill MacDonald, of Bellows Falls, Vt. (180), will compete in the 4-axle class. MacDonald competed at NTDC in 2001, 2002 and 2004–2006.
- Manchester, N.H. (140), Driver Neil Nogues, will compete in the straight truck class at this year's NTDC. Nogues is no stranger to the championships: He's competed eight times: 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2005–2008.
- Bruce Quaal, also of St. Paul, is competing in the sleeper class. This will be Quaal's third year in a row to compete at Nationals.
- Mickey Rafeal, of Concord, N.H. (189), will represent his state and YRC in the 3-axle class. This is Rafeal's sixth trip to the NTDC. He's competed in 1998, 2002, 2003 and 2005–2007.
- Another Concord driver, Rick Wickman, enters the ranks of NTDC competitors from YRC. Wickman will compete in the twin trailers class. He's competed at six previous NTDC: 1997, 1998, 2000, 2003, 2004 and 2008.
YRC New Hampshire drivers enjoy the additional distinction of having won the state team trophy.
These YRC Worldwide drivers will represent their states and YRC at the 2009 National Truck Driving Championships from Aug. 17–22 in Pittsburgh.
