16 drivers earn the right to compete at the National Truck Driving Championships [06.15.2009]
Fifteen YRC drivers and one Reddaway driver won their classes at state truck driving championships over the weekend to earn the right to compete at the
National Truck Driving Championships (NTDC). The drivers hailed from service centers in Connecticut, Illinois, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, Utah and
Virginia.
- Roger Anderson, a YRC driver from Cincinnati (241) won the 4-axle class in his state. This will be his second trip in a row to the
NTDC.
- Randy Briggs, a Salt Lake City (881) YRC driver, will compete in the straight truck class. This is Briggs' rookie year of
competition, making this his first NTDC.
- Cheshire, Conn. (107), YRC Driver William Cormier is also making his rookie trip to Nationals where he'll compete in the twin trailers
class.
- Casey Dubbs of Billings, Mont. (888), earned the right to proceed to Nationals to compete in the straight truck class for YRC. Dubbs
is competing for the fifth time at Nationals.
- Randy Ebinger joins the ranks of YRC rookies who will compete at Nationals. Ebinger, of Manassas, Va. (149), won his state's 5-axle
class.
- Al Evans of Akron, Ohio (211), will represent Ohio and YRC in the tanker competition at the NTDC. Evans competed at the NTDC in 1998,
2001 and 2007.
- John Harris, a Billings Reddaway driver will compete in the 4-axle class. Harris also competed in 2006.
- Chicago Ridge, Ill. (301), YRC Driver Rick Herbert won the 4-axle class in his state and received an award for the highest pretrip inspection score. Herbert has competed at seven Nationals,
including the 2005 competition where he was named National Grand Champion.
- Adam Hyatt, a YRC driver from Reno Nev. (819), also will compete in the 4-axle class. Hyatt previously competed at
Nationals in 2002.
- Daryl Johnson, of Omaha, Neb. (381), will represent YRC and Nebraska in the 3-axle class. Johnson received the Vehicle Condition Award
for the highest pretrip inspection score. He's no stranger to the championships, having competed at the NTDC in 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2004.
- Cincinnati Driver Jeff Mefford will join the other YRC Ohio drivers at the NTDC. He's competing in the twin trailers class. This is
Mefford's fifth trip to Nationals. He also competed in 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2007.
- David Miller, of Montgomery, Ill. (304), won the tanker class to represent YRC at the NTDC. Miller has competed at the NTDC in 1996
and 2001.
- Illinois adds another YRC driver to the ranks with Anthony Remesch's flatbed class win. Remesch, of Decatur (355), competed at the
2005 NTDC.
- Chicago Heights, Ill. (R78), YRC Driver Richard Seigle won the 5-axle class. Seigle has competed at two previous NTDCs: 2002 and
2006.
- Another Omaha YRC driver, Scott Stroup, will be attending his fifth nationals, having made the trip in 1995, 2000, 2001 and 2005.
Stroup is competing in the twin trailers class.
- Along with placing first in the flatbed class, Salt Lake City Driver Ron VanBibber of YRC was named the state Grand Champion. This is
VanBibber's fifth trip in a row to the NTDC, having begun his winning streak in 2005.
YRC Ohio drivers enjoy the additional distinction of having won the state team trophy. Reddaway drivers won the Montana team trophy.
These YRC Worldwide drivers will represent their states and YRC at the 2009 National Truck Driving Championships from Aug. 17–22 in Pittsburgh.
