Driving Training Institute Curriculum

REDTI offers one basic training program. The Entry Level Professional Truck Driver Training Program, is an 8-week program designed to teach the correct operation of a tractor-trailer unit. On completion, the successful student earns a certificate from REDTI and a Class 1S license from the Province of Manitoba.

SCHEDULE (8-week)
Training sessions are scheduled* as follows for the rest of the 2009 school year:

  • March 30–May 22
  • May 11–July 3
  • June 22–Aug. 14
  • Aug. 4–Sept. 25
  • Sept. 14–Nov. 6
  • Oct. 26–Dec. 18
  • Dec. 7–Jan. 29

The Entry Level Professional Truck Driver Training Program (8 Weeks/324 Hours)

80 Hours of Classroom Theory (2 weeks of eight-hour days)

  • Vehicle systems and maintenance
  • Proper inspection procedures
  • Specialized tractors and trailers
  • Cargo handling and securing
  • Backing techniques and maneuvers
  • Safe driving techniques
  • Fleet Smart—Smart Driver Program (Office of Energy Efficiency)
  • Extreme driving challenges
  • Trip planning
  • Log books
  • Accidents and fires
  • Hazardous materials
  • The driving life style and employment

60 Hours Lab/180 Hours In-Cab and Range Training (6 weeks)

  • Vehicle orientation and proper inspection procedures
  • Backing techniques and maneuvers
  • City driving, cornering, shifting and proper road management
  • Defensive driving
  • Highway operation

4 Hours (2 Road Tests)
