Insulated Cover Program FAQs

1. What is the Insulated Cover program at YRC?
The YRC Insulated Cover program covers products that freeze at or below 32° F./0° C. Our program is designed to safely transport shipments that are prone to freezing for our participating shippers. The policy uses well-established procedures for handling shipments in freezing weather, including:
  • Insulated drum, tote or pallet covers
  • Monitoring weather forecasts using AccuWeather
  • Labeling shipments and waybills distinctively to easily identify freezable goods
  • Sheltered areas to hold freezables during severe weather condition
  • Procedures for protecting goods while in transit
2. What types of products are shipped as Insulated Cover shipments?
YRC provides Insulated Cover protection to such industries as chemical and allied products, food and beverage, candy, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and agricultural.
3. When is the YRC Insulated Cover program available?
The program is available from November 1 through April 15.
4. How much does the Insulated Cover program cost?
The YRC Insulated Cover program has a value-added premium of 25 percent that is added to each shipment (subject to a $35US minimum charge).
5. How do I get more information or sign up for the YRC Insulated Cover program?

Since its inception, the program has maintained an industry-leading 99.8-percent claim-free record.
